Emission

Things went well today.
Just got home from work and on my way to the underground garage Adrian called me whether I have an emission document for the car. Here they call it as abgaswartung papier.
I was immediately curious about the development so I made my way to his werkstatt and brought the doc to him.

The car was standing in the door with idleing engine and Adrian told me that he was going to perform the exhaust emission control. Wow!!


I know it is not visible on the pic but the engine was running so smooth that it was not moving or shaking at all but only the v-belt was running around. Wonderful Japanese techique.
Driving belt changed. Spark plugs changed together with the engine oil. He also said that he filled up the gas tank in order to refresh the petrol for the test. After whatever years of standing in the mud and having old petrol in the tank it sound a good idea.


The down side of the petrol issue is that the petrol indicator does not show anything with full tank.
Adrian says that it needs to be done for the MFK. UPDATE: It is ok for now.
We also agreed that the gasfilter is to be changed too. It was changed not so long ago, I have got a bill of that from the prvious ovner, but better to have a new one.

However, the test result is promising. In idle speed it is 0.24%  CO
A stock engine is allowed to perform max 0.7%.
In higher, 2000 RPM it is even lower, 0.22%

In higher speed, 2500 RPM it is even lower, 0.22%
I can sit back and relax regarding the conditions of the engine, plus the abgaswartung is ticked.
Now I really need to receive the gas struts to the hood since that is the only thing I have not manged so far.

Just got a mail from the USPS that my parcel is moved and arrived somewhere to Florida. Wow, after 11 days it is done some hundreds of kms. Well done. Now only the rest 6000 or so is coming.

With warm water and oil the oil pressure is a little under the 2 kg/m2 in idle. Not bad.
Please recognise the Holy Nippon Quartz Clock as well.

By pressing the gas the engine accelerates explodingly and jumps up to the high RPM-s.

Wheel+Tyre


Believe it or not, only slightly over 17kg-s the stock wheel together with winter tyre.

I should find such wheels for the summer in case I want lightweight driving:

alternatively:
desmond regamaster evo 15x7 5x114.3 even if this kind exists at all


Another alternative to stay with the stock wheels for the turbo version which has a bit better sizing and the weight is very near to the today wheels.

Driving belt

Changing the driving belt is not the most complex work worldwide and you can find detailed description by googling. But in spite of this I note it here again because finding the dot is not that straightforward. Ok, it is either not that horrific to find but it is good to know that that small sign to be find at the very end of the crankshaft is rather small and it is easy to miss it out especially when the roast is the lord of the things around. Deliberately not hard to look it over if you are not an everyday Z31 bugger. Tobi is not that kind. If the cup fits.

Szebb most nem lesz

Belemerultem az autofenyezes rejtelmeibe.
Rozsdatlanitas, kitteles, csiszolas, alapozas, szorogitt, meg kiegyenlito vagy mi, es vegul rafujtam a tuti eros, felniarany festeket, olyan szelben, hogy vitorlazni szivesebben mentem volna, csak festeni ne kelljen. Raadasul beteg is voltam a pigment felvitelekor, nemi lazzal, de a lazcsillapito csodakra kepes.
Egy hetvege ment ra az elokeszitesre, plusz meg utana egy heten keresztul estenkent 1 orat csak azzal toltottem, hogy valami elfogadhato feluletet kepezzek a rozsdasvas kinezet helyett. Mindezekkel egyutt, amikor a motorhaztetot fujtam, siman elfelejtettem, hogy meg nem csiszoltam meg a feluletet a szorogitt utan.
Amikor eljott a kovetkezo hetvege, amikor mindenki mas halottak napjat unnepelt, nalam eljott a festekszoras napja. Szombat reggel, ahogy kineztem az ablakon, nem orultem, hogy fuj a szel. Tobbszor kimentem "szelerosseget merni". Mindig az jott ki, hogy ilyen szelben nem lehet az utcan festeni. Igy nekilattam a dolognak. Hiszen azt nem tudhattam elore, hogy mennyi, csodalatosan szep, napost , 15 fok feletti Novemberi hetvege all meg elottunk.
Abban biztam, hogy majd valahogy learnyekolom a szelokeseket egy a kezben tartott ujsagpapirral. Nem tudtam semmit learnyekolni a szel erejebol. Ki kellett mindig varnom a kello pillanatot, amikor kevesbe fujt. De persze ebbol nem mindig az lett, amit kartam. A festek oda ment, ahova eppen a legaramlat lokte. Eselytelen voltam. Na mindegy. A vege az lett, hogy lementem a melygarazsba, hogy az utolso reteget ott fujjam ra. Szinte sotetben. Legalabb legyen valami fenye, ha amugy is elter a szin, de nagyon.

A motortetot ki sem hoztam a pincebol, ott fujtam le, de a stressz miatt elfelejtettem lecsiszolni elotte, igy pont olyan szörös lett, mint valami flokkolas. A vegen annyira nem erdekelt mar a minoseg, hogy csak azert fujtam ki a dobozt, hogy ures legyen.

Adrian nem kapott infarktust es nem mondta, hogy igy o nem viszi el muszakizni. Tehat igy marad.


Azota is csodas szep ido van. Minimalis legmozgasokkal. De ki tudta ezt elore megmondani. Az utolso hetvegenek tunt akkor meg. Azota tudom, hogy az alkatresz kesedelem miatt amugy is parkolopalyan vagyunk.
Ellenben az uj gumik mar rajta vannak, es igy lehet kezzel is ide oda mozgatni, amig megjon a vizpumpa, ami ma meg is erkezett, de csak holnap kerul be.
Az uj Conti TS 850-ek semmit nem tesznek a latvanyhoz, ellenben csodasan keskenyek es teli guminak tokeletesek egy ABS nelkuli oreg autora.
Az orrdiszt is felraktuk. Nem egy nagy dolog, lehet, hogy kicserelem, ha megjon a masik az USA-bol. De csak akkor, ha az szebben mutat.
A teto es oszlopok kis rozsdafoltjainak elfedese meg mindig varat magara, mert az elmult hetveget inkabb a gyerekekkel toltottem.


Ma hetfo van, november 9. A honap vegere saccolom, hogy rendszammal lehet majd hajtani.

Restoring, saved from rot away

Well, my first profession was car mechanic, and I still influenced by that but what I do with this car is something different.

The good news is that it is not roasted. Significant roast is nowhere at important locations. Nevertheless at the right front corner, where it is broken a little, unprofessional repair is performed but hardly visible, and I can’t do anything with it. Fortunately the plastic bumper covers everything and it can wait until I get it fully repaired. The twisted driver side headlamp is also due to this problem. If they let it go on the MFK then I will be happy. Update: According to Adrian it is fine for the test.

I painted what was possible against further oxidation. The coat colour differs in about 95% otherwise perfect match. I have no esthetical ambitions but only focused on the main target. No more roast. So came the alloywheel-gold on to the full hood and some small parts of the front fenders.

The off side mirror is changed. This was very interesting since the half door has got to be disassembled for this routine. It is black, so if I get it right now the car has 5 colours. The MFK officer is going to go in mad. Or Adrian. Not a big deal but it is still visible.

The moulded parkingclock is also gone. I have got a hard time with it.


Snapshots from underneat are very interesting. For example here is a pump which is responsible of circulating oil in between final drive and its cooling. What kind of demand have they planned here that needed an additional cooling?

 Or her is the screen wash pump what you only can access from underside of the car. I got the answer. Center of gravity. For sure. However, it is under everything and when all parts are in place you can only hear it but not visible.
By the way the car has 12cm clearance. It is not easy to put even your hand underneat.

A boring list about basics:
Driving belt with waterpump, just ordered. Already disassembled.

















Back struts. Bump stop rubber is missing. It is on the way already. Update: Done.

Anti sway bar bushings. All to be changed.




















 Breaks are fine. The rotors are missing about 0.001mm

We could not even try it out normally but the clutch feels like not perfect. The gear hits the whole drivetrain when it is switched in. The power steering gives noise but it can be normal from the age. With cold engine the acceleration is not ok but it is better after warming up. The exhaust smells like a Jeti.

I mean no rost but mud only. Its under the front fenders.

This is the engine oil cooling. It is made from iron stainless steel I guess because it is in mud and wet but no signs of harm at all. There is a little unlucky hole at the front right corner. VPM. Very Purposely Made in order to let cool air coming to it. Here was the accident as well, you can see the grey colour of grounding paint around on the other parts.



So far all fine, no tank-trap to be hang on. There is not even considerable roast recognised on the floor pan by lifting the car.

The kids are very much waiting the time when we all can sit in drifting cruising down to the city.

All in all, restoring is in progress. I mean the kids and me did it. Adrian not, he only repairs cars.

So came to its place the inside mirror what Aron managed to broke, from NL from Erica together with the bump stops, outside mirror, sway bar bushings, headlamp shade and a very overused front bumper ornament. We are waiting for parts from USA too. Hood struts what we need to modify a bit once arrived to be fully handy. Some sway bar bushings also coming from there for safety reason, a pair of bump stops too, brand new and a hopefully better front ornament. Update: The parcel left 5 days ago from NC USA, took a round in Florida and returned to its sender. Today it starts again. I will arrive in this lifetime. Update: The parcel left in the 14th day of countdown again from the sender city. It sits now in Florida again. How long, we do not able to know. The back door seal is fixed. No need of change. The roasted chassis in this place is also repaired.

I obtained wintertyres. The stock sized 215 probably has never been a populare size but for today it is hardly marketed but only for some kg of gold you can buy it. The size 195 is the one you can use and it is even better than the 215 for the winter. Very elegant and practically gives better grip and handling. Needs to be measured for the totalcar.hu

The neighbours were asking if it was a delorean and when I said it was Nissan then they have no idea any more.

P.S.
The neighbourhood can relax now, we are not fixing cars in the underground garage, and it even not going to placed there anymore. The Z3 got back its place. Update: Letter arrived from the property management. Warning! No car repair is allowed in the underground garage. OK, got it.
